Government bodies urged to compile reports

GOVERNMENT departments and agencies have been encouraged to compile and present annual reports or they will be seen to have misappropriated monies allocated to them.
The Ombudsman Commission yesterday made the call following the tabling of its annual reports for the years 2003, 2004 and 2005 on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday.
Ombudsman Peter Masi said when reports were not presented, it implied that monies allocated to the respective organisations and departments were “misused and misappropriated”.
Mr Masi said the least they could do was tell the people (public) of what is happening to their funds.
He said some organisations and their managers were slowly seeing the need to compile annual reports but the continuous change in heads of departments and agencies has caused the delay for the reports which should be presented every two months.
Mr Masi said systems within organisations had broken down and this affected the compiling of annual reports.
