Momase highway mooted
A Momase highway will link up Sandaun to East Sepik to Madang and Lae in the Morobe province, Treasurer Sir Rabbie Namaliu said yesterday. He confirmed that the funding would come from the K327 million approved for infrastructure in the recent NEC meeting in Wewak. He was responding to the Member for Usino Bundi Peter Yama, who wanted to know why K600 million was approved for projects in East Sepik province alone. Sir Rabbie said the correct figure was K327 million not K600 million and was not for East Sepik alone but for East Sepik and Sandaun provinces for infrastructure projects including the highway, housing and upgrading of Taji airport in Sandaun.

MPs urged to acquit funds
Deputy Prime Minister Don Polye warned MPs they will not be released district grants if they failed to acquit for their pervious funding. He stressed the district development grants and non-discretionary grants were not individual MPs funds but for services to people in their districts. He was responding to queries raised by several MPs that although they had submitted their financial reports, they were still waiting for the release of the fund.

Extension sought for coins
Treasurer Sir Rabbie Namaliu said he will be asking the Governor of the Bank to extend the period given for 1t and 2t coins which ceased to be legal tender as of yesterday. Sir Rabbie said the Governor of the Bank had the authority and can make the decision to extend legal tender.
