Piggies on the trot in rugby union
race
By WENDY KATUSELE
THE Port Moresby rugby union competition is gaining momentum with
interesting matches on the card this weekend as premiers
University Piggies take on Wanderers in the main game tomorrow at
the Bava Park.
The week five round of matches promises to be entertaining as the
teams have picked up form with their winning combinations in place
with the Defending champions Piggies trotting on the right track
with an unbeaten record so far.
The students, who also won the pre-season title, have set the pace
but this weekend they will be missing the services of skipper
Willie Rikis who is currently on tour with the national team in
Brisbane, Australia.
However, this should not be a problem for the Piggies who have
reliable hands in Sova Amet, George Hoki, David Wesley, Kopi Marai
and Steven Batia to lead their chargers to another win.
Wanderers are currently riding on high waves after securing new
jumpers for the side and this should be an incentive for them to
spoil the party for the Piggies.
Experienced and former Pukpuk Paul Pomoso will again be in the
thick of things with the support of Jason Gegeyo and Shane Ameien.
The other match scheduled for the day should see Kone Sharks Rex
Wai and Denzel Agi take charge on the field against big guns
Harlequins who should have no problem with the likes of Richard
Pangkatana to lead by example.
On Sunday, promoted Southern Chiefs lock horns with the boys from
Murray Barracks.
Defence, who are pre match favourites, have the services of big
guns John Larry, Ajay Sabumei and Malcolm Giheno again to lead the
boys in green.
Port Moresby Rugby Football Union manager Joachim Tonove has urged
clubs pay their registration fee of K250 a team by April 30.
Meanwhile, POMRFU have conveyed their deepest sorrow to the family
of the Bougainville administrator the late Peter Tsiamalili.
