PX should use own security
LAST April 12, PX163 Goroka-Port Moresby landed at 9am.
As I rushed to check in for a special connection flight to Lihir, I had to pass through the metal scanner before the check-in area.
I was searched by security guards wearing white shirts and green trousers from Protect Security.
After picking up my bags, I joined the queue but could not approach the counter as there was another group of security guards dressed in green shirts and trousers with yellow strips from Crown Security who were keeping travellers at bay.
As I waited for my turn to be served, I noticed another group of uniformed men in light blue shirts and dark blue trousers with the label “Air Niugini Security” written across their back.
These group behaved more like load masters than security guards as they frequently helped with sorting baggage at the check-in counter while others paced around the check-in area.
The counters designated for Airlines PNG were free at that time and I noticed two security men in an all too familiar blue Royal PNG Constabulary uniform occupying the seats with their heads bowed which led me to conclude that they were reading newspapers or something.
How many security firms work around the domestic terminal?
Do we really need many guards?
We may soon have a situation where the guards will outnumber travellers.
Why can’t Air Niugini stick to using its own security and rid of triplication of the same job.
Is this why our tickets are so expensive?
