Lahanis shoot down Bombers before home crowd

By ZACHERY PER
BINTANGOR Lahanis recorded its second SP Cup win before its home crowd in Goroka yesterday by defeating Lae Building Contractors (LBC)Bombers 32-10 at Sir Danny Leahy Oval.
Lahanis defeated Agmark Guria 28-18 in the opening round at Kokopo, East New Britain, last week.
The Goroka side broke a scoreless first half in the 26th minute when winger Alphonse Kapil pushed through to score a try which was not converted but Bombers replied just before half time through a try by Kumul Eki Ene, also not converted.
It was 4-4 at the break.
Lahanis went into the second half with more determination to score tries through Mack Siwi, Garnet Auwo, Anton Kui, Dinima Kerenga and Nicko Slain to win the game.
The visitors managed only one converted try through bench player Steven Kua from a grubber kick by five-eighth Kumul Nime Kapo.
Bombers coach Boga Tau blamed his side’s loss on too many ball handling errors and failure to execute their game plan.
He said the better side of the day defeated his team.
Lahanis coach Peter Danga said his boys fared poorly in the first half but came alive in the second half to win the game.
“Our boys did not play the ball quickly in the first half that is why Bombers players quickly cut us out,” he said, adding that there was more room for improvement as a team.
