CIC commended

By JAMES KILA
THE Coffee Industry Corporation (CIC) was commended for working in partnership with the Rural Development Bank in reaching out to farmers with loans in the rural districts.
RDB branch manager in Kundiawa Willie Mapa said the cordial working relationship between officers of the bank and CIC in reaching farmers who had loans with the bank under the smallholder agriculture credit scheme (SACS) was doing well.
Mr Mapa also commended the CIC coffee credit guarantee scheme (CCGS) section for serving the same farmers.
He was speaking during a ceremony at Mata village in the Kamtai sub-district of Sinasina Yongumugl district where 54 smallholder coffee farmers received certificates after completing a course conducted by the CIC.
A good number of farmers, who attended the training, were farmers who had acquired loans through the coffee credit scheme.
The farmers at the graduation also commended CIC for organising them into cooperative marketing groups to market their coffee produce.
Poti Kumuno, a spokesman for the Mata farmers said cooperative marketing was certainly the way to go.
He said previously, farmers were going to the market individually to sell their produce which was not very beneficial.
