Tari mayor criticises NEC, SHP govt

THE Southern Highlands province is being operated like a ‘private business enterprise’ by the National Executive Council and the provincial government.
Tari town mayor George Tagobe said this yesterday in response to the on-going legal battle over the provincial administrator’s post.
Mr Tagobe called on the NEC and the provincial government to publicly declare whose interest they were pursuing.
In the latest twist of events, the Supreme Court ruled on Tuesday that the NEC backed William Powi as the legitimate provincial administrator while Governor Hami Yawari’s appointee Alphonse Hayabe’s appointment was nullified.
Mr Tagobe said the prolonged tussle over the post had made government goods and services to come to a complete standstill while frustration and anxiety built up among the people.
