Capacity building tops SAP agenda

A STAR Alliance Party government will ban the practice of nepotism in the public service, SAP national president William Yanei said yesterday.
“Appointments and employments at all government levels would be based on merit and no longer on who-you-know basis. We would also insist that the minimum entry-level qualification for any employment within the public sector is be a bachelor’s degree.”
Mr Yanei said in a statement that SAP would endeavour to develop the nation’s research and development capacity.
“We would set up centres of excellence targeting different research and development areas in the first year of government in the areas of biotechnology, information technology, corporate governance, engineering, standards and conversion, anthropology, linguistics and theology.”
Mr Yanei said that they were not making any promises but offering sound policies.
“The people of PNG are intelligent and politically savvy.
“They will study our policies and appreciate us for what we plan to do,” he said.
