Teachers frustrated by bank’s services

By MICHELLE YIPRUKAMAN
MORE than 100 teachers throughout the nation’s capital and the Central province were “left high and dry” on Wednesday waiting outside the Waigani Bank of South Pacific for their salary.
Frustrated teachers told The National late yesterday they had been waiting since Wednesday to receive their salaries which had frustrated them because some of them had to travel from outside NCD.
They were informed by the Teachers Services Commission that it had already processed their salaries to which their pay slips was proof.
“Some teachers as far as Rigo district had to travel into Port Moresby on Wednesday just to obtain their salary are still waiting. We are not happy with the services in which BSP is providing as the majority of teachers across the country are customers of this bank,” they said.
They said their colleagues who banked with Westpac and ANZ banks had received their fortnightly wages on Wednesday.
“BSP should at least provide an explanation as to the delay in processing our salaries into our respective accounts upon our queries at the bank. If we do not get our pay by today (yesterday), then we will not attend to normal classes which mean innocent school children will suffer. BSP management should seriously look at providing its services since it promotes its services as being the best in the country,” they said.
Attempts made to contact the bank for its comments were unsuccessfully.
