Sir Bob wants rules amended to penalise absent Members

LAE businessman Sir Bob Sinclaire wants to see Parliamentary standing orders amended to ensure MPs who fail to attend Parliament sessions are not paid sitting allowances.
“After a successful 43 years of managing my family business in Morobe, I think I have a lot to offer in making legislative decisions,” Sir Bob, who will be contesting the Morobe regional seat, said.
“NGP will ensure that the annual sitting days of Parliament are honoured.
“We will review the Standing Orders of Parliament with the view of enforcing accountability of Members’ attendance and for allowing ample time for debate on important bills and legislations,” he said.
“And yes, Members of Parliament who fail to attend Parliament session will not get their sitting allowance.
“I have taken the risk to contest the Morobe Regional Seat in this year’s election, despite it being a tough call, and of course I am determined to succeed.
“Furthermore, after all these years of success in Papua New Guinea, I decided that I had to reciprocate in one way or another to the people of Papua New Guinea,” he said in a statement.
He is co-founder of the New Generation Party headed by Lae MP Bart Philemon.
He said when the party was incorporated last August and subsequently registered as a political party last November, “I thought it was only fitting that I relinquished my foundation membership from National Alliance and team up with New Generation Party, knowing very well that the Member for Lae will lead the party”.
“Over the last 31 years, no political leader other than Mr Philemon has provided that needed leadership in economic management when the country was going through economic turbulence, therefore I concluded by joining NGP,” he said when asked why decided to join NGP.
He said Mr Philemon’s achievements were on the score board and it would require all like-minded politicians to improve on this high score.
