Respect election process: Kauba

By PETER MIVA
OUTGOING Lae metropolitan commander Chief Supt Simon Kauba has urged leaders and candidates in the Highlands to respect the election process and to ensure that it is successful.
Mr Kauba, who is the newly-appointed Assistant Police Commissioner in charge of the Highlands region, said the success of the election in the region depended on the conduct of leaders and candidates in the various Highlands provinces.
He made these remarks at a farewell parade and guard of honour at the Bumbu police barracks in Lae yesterday.
Mr Kauba said police preparations for the region were on schedule.
“We will not tolerate trouble and urge the leaders to show a good example to supporters by following the electoral process, its rules and guidelines and the new limited preferential voting system,” Mr Kauba said.
He said leaders in the communities solved differences and disputes through effective dialogue and conflict resolution in the communities and the police were ready to involve these leaders in the communities.
“These leaders are capable of solving problems; they’ve always done it with success so the police will ensure that we cooperate with these leaders to bring peace during the election period,” he said.
