Land men demand money from travellers

LANDOWNERS of the Angabanga Bridge are demanding money from the travelling public for the use of the road.
Kerema MP Ekis Ropenu told Parliament during Question Time that the Angabanga bridge was nearly washed away and the new road build had not been used because the landowners were demanding compensation.
In his questions to Works Minister Gabriel Kapris, he asked whether the Government had resolved the compensation issue.
“Landowners are demanding K50-K100 from the travelling public. It’s a big shame. The people of Kerema and parts of Central province are affected because they do most of their trade in Port Moresby.”
Mr Kapris said he was aware of the situation.
He said landowners had chased away Works engineers who went to recourse the river.
