Fifty sign up for soccer
A total of 50 teams have confirmed
their interest to participate in the Lae Football Association
season proper competition which is scheduled to kick off this
weekend.
LFA general secretary Alex Tokey confirmed the number of teams
after the fixtures meeting on Tuesday. He said the season proper
competition would kick off this weekend after a two-week break due
to Morobe Cup championship which ended on Sunday.
“The teams that have expressed their interest and have met all the
registration requirements are (12) in the premier men’s division,
(12) women, (14) first division and (10) in the U20 men’s
division,” he said.
“I’m impressed with the increased in the number of teams that will
take part in this year’s competition as it all attributed to good
administration.”
Tokey said many teams have paid up their club and players
registrations and he urged those that have not to make an attempt
before tomorrow.
He said he will finalise the draws on Friday and advice all the
teams who have not paid their registration to do so before close
of business today to call into his office at LFA club house and
pay up or call him on telephone number 4728466 for further

Lae netball pre-season comp to start
LAE amateur netball pre-season
competition will start this weekend and all the old and new clubs
who are interested to take part in this year’s competition should
turn up at Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium at 12pm.
Lae netball executive Sao Verave said yesterday the pre-season
will start on April 28-29 at the SIKS netball courts and urged all
the teams to attend to confirm their participation in the
competition this year.
“I urged all the old and new clubs wishing to take part in the
netball competition for this year to confirm their registration on
Friday April 27. The registration fee is K70 per team and all the
clubs are urged to pay up their registration fees prior to be
accepted into the competition,” Verave said.

Morobe to hold basketball
championship

MOROBE is preparing to hold a
Provincial Basketball Championship in May to select a best side to
represent the province in the PNG Games to be held in Lae November
this year.
Morobe Sport Office officer Gewa Saking said that all the
basketball associations in Morobe are urged to contact his office
to confirm their attendance at their championships.
“We will be holding our Provincial Basketball Championship at the
Eriku Basketball Courts on May 25-27 and I urged all the
interested teams to confirm their attendance by contacting my
office,” Saking said.

Hockey pre-season starts
LAE Hockey Association kicked off its
competition with two men’s and ten women’s teams participating in
the pre- season competition last weekend.
Lae Hockey publicity officer Sae Dowara said the men’s and women’s
games will be slotted in on confirmation of the total number of
teams before this weekend and the teams are urged to contact me to
confirm their participation to enable us to include them in the
draws.
In the women’s division at 1pm Atzera will battle it out with
Rapatona and Poromeri to take on Excels at 2pm, Iruba to clash
with Wanderers at 3pm and Sunam will lock horns with Lightning in
the main game at 4pm on Saturday.
