Volleyball clash sees former grand
finalists touch base
SPECTATORS will witness the replay of the 2005 and 2006 grand
finals when Melona Scorpions and Mabey & Johnson U-MiYet clash in
the NCDVA men's premier game of the weekend at TLC Volleyball
Courts on Saturday.
Without key players; Loi Walo for Scorpions and Boniface Irisia
for MJ U-MiYet last weekend, both sides lost - therefore both
teams will be working towards amendments this weekend.
Scorpions have added Vatu Rupa to increase their venom at the net,
while U-MiYet has lost three players to PNG Ports this season.
This game will see if the Mabey & Johnson sponsored side is able
to cover up that vacuum and produce the goods.
On the women's court Aranamo BBK's undefeated run will be put test
by reigning queens, who are yet register their first win this
season.
Aranamo have recruited well by adding PNG blocker, Kaini Tau and
PNG training squad member, Clara Kila from Vabukori to team up
with Kalia Alu, Pala Alu, Pate Gima and Veiwa Vela and they are
proving to be competitive early in the season.
Aranamo has the individual brilliance, but weather they can
deliver as a team against well-polished sides - this Saturday will
be a good opportunity.
On the other side of the net, PM Hoppers have a consistent team
combination that has produced premiership titles featuring Diane
John, Aileen LepanI, Joyce Kambori and Tau Warupi with Aileen Gima,
who is the new face in the team, but lacking a proper setter at
this stage.
In the other men's fixtures Peteru should become Viriolo's next
victim, height and class should give PM Grass Hoppers the edge
over PNG Ports and a tight result is expected between Aranamo BBK
and Ulamagi.
And in the other women's games; and in the women's matches; MJ
U-Mi Yet should prove too strong for Melona Scorpions, Magpies
should overcome PNG Ports and Magpies should beat Viriolo in the
last women's premier game.
Also on Saturday, the PNG training squad for the SP Games will
have a trial match with NCDVA select side at 3.00pm and on Sunday
with Fairfax select side. Both games will be played at TLC
Volleyball Courts. This will be an opportunity to evaluate their
preparation with four months to go before the opening ceremony in
Apia.
