Eastern Highlands soccer finally ready

But the poor preparedness by the Goroka Soccer Association administration has angered players and club officials who feel that the competition is on a downhill roll and could lose many of its talented players to other sporting codes which are already into their proper season.
Jonah Leo, Chauka team manager and coach, said GSA should have already gone into its proper season but the delay has put doubt into players' minds about whether soccer would not be played at all this year.
He said players were frustrated because they had been training for weeks without any word from GSA executives about this year's kick off until only two weeks ago when they announced a pre-season start.
Leo said the Chauka Soccer Club is ready for this year's competition and would be putting a team in each of the men's and women's division. These included premier men and women, reserve division men and women, Under 15 and Under 13.
He said his men and women players have been training hard since last week and would be fit enough to go into the proper season.
This year affiliation fee for teams competing in the association was reduced to K300 from last year's fee of K600.
