Road runners gear up
The diehards of Port Moresby Road Runners are gearing up for a
hectic month of activity, starting tomorrow with the third round
of the Endurance Challenge at POM Grammar School at 5pm.
Also known as the "Boroko RSL" course, the distance of the main
event on the card is 10km. This out-and-back course commences at
the corner of Bava Street and Taurama Road and heads to Taurama
Barracks where the turnaround is 1.3km after passing through the
barracks gates.
The runners barely catch their breath before round four of the
Challenge gets underway at 6am on Sunday, May 6, at the UPNG
campus Waigani, where the distance is 11.6km.
Round five requires another 6am start, this time back at POM
Grammar on Sunday, May 27, for the Taurama Ten Miler over 16km.
The course is an elongated version of tomorrow's, with the
turnaround at Taurama Beach.
Sandwiched among all that are the normal Saturday runs, where
shorter distances are always available.
Milton Iakosi has blown away his opponents in rounds one and two
of the Challenge and is on target for an unprecedented third
straight series victory. But whether chasing victory, or just
tagging alongfor the ride, Road Runners is for everyone.
The POM Grammar car park will be open tomorrow at 4.30pm for all
participants.
