| Enga govt must consider Maramuni-Sepik option | |
|
PEOPLE in the highlands are suffering
due to the landslip in Simbu. This is not the first time it has happened nor will it be the last. Compared to other highlands provinces, Enga seems to be the last to get service and sometime we miss out some basic services and the costs of these services are higher too. For example, the current supply of fuel in Enga is running low and it is expensive coming down to Mt Hagen to look for fuel. Big mines like Porgera need a large supply of fuel to keep the mine going. I think people of Enga have suffered enough and it is time we better look for means to get some services directly from the ports. I appeal to the Enga provincial government and the PJV to seriously consider constructing the Maramuni-Sepik road so that Engans can get direct service from the port in Sepik. Going all the way down to Lae is expensive and most of the time, it is risky. We have shortcut to Sepik and should make full use of it. Buka Philip, Madang |
