Defence on top of PRL ladder
By HENRY MORABANG
KAWASO Defence remained undefeated after round four to maintain the top spot on the Port Moresby Rugby Football League ladder.

Winger Nelson Wanga put on a man of the match performance to help the Green Machine from Murray Barracks steamroll a depleted Wests 34-4.
Wangam, with support from former Northern Zone rep Mark Warua and company, had no problem helping Defence bulldoze their way to the top of the competition ladder.
Second placed Royals suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of Kone Tigers 18-10, while Bogasi Dobo Warriors bounced back into the winning circle by disposing of Hekari Tarangau 16-12.
The new-look Magani side leapt from a 28-all deadlock in the dying minutes of their game against Bishop Brothers Hawks to come out on top 32-28.
Paga Panthers continued their good winning form to beat Mabey & Johnson Butterflies 26-20.
Interestingly, Waliya registered their first points of the season by thumping Brothers 14-0.
The little known team from Hohola suburb beat all odds and proved pundits wrong to come out on top of Brothers. Many have predicted that the club was headed for the wooden spoon this season.
In the first SP Cup trial match yesterday, Boera Sailors’ sails failed to flutter against a strong Civpac NCD Port Moresby Vipers, going down 26-54.
The Sailors came from behind to hold Vipers to an 18-all deadlock at half time but they became overwhelmingly complacent in the second half and allowed the Vipers easy access to their tryline at will.
In the second trial match, Masta Mak City Rangers sent the Port Moresby Suburb rep team back to the classroom to fine-tune their skills level with a 38-0 thrashing.
The suburban rep side was concentrating on “muscle power” and had no answer to the Rangers’ good offensive play, led by five-eighth Jessie Joe.
Joe played a blinder contributing two tries and three conversions for a personal tally of 14 points on the day.
Tries scorers for the Vipers were Dickson Wallen, a product of suburban league, Eki Ene with a double, Johnson Kuike and Charles Onguglo.
In the Port Moresby Suburban League, Morata Swans beat Bomana 10-0, D8 Mosquitoes dumped 9-Mile 6-0, Porebada blitzed Tatana 8-6 and Kone Sharks nailed Erema Souths 16-4.
