Fortune Club with new looks & style

FORTUNE Club, one of Port Moresby’s biggest membership clubs in town now has a new look, style and facilities for customers comfort.

The former Arrow Club located along Waigani Drive has undergone maintenance and expansion to cater for more people and facilities.
Outside there is ample car parking for members and non-members and tight security personnel’s to keep out the unwanted thugs.
With the extension, the club now has 10 private karaoke rooms for private functions and parties and an extra bigger lounge area to allocate for more people.
The karaoke rooms are built in two sizes, the smaller room can occupy about 10 people while the bigger one can cater for 16 people.
All rooms are fully air-conditioned with comfortable sofas and have full karaoke set with amplifiers, computer set, microphones and a 21inch cable television set to help make your party/function a memorable one.
Recently, the club has also introduced happy hour from 4pm-6pm daily, buy one get one free on all bottle beers as a way to celebrate the club’s anniversary and to help give back something to their customers.

Final karaoke audition at Gold Club
IN an attempt to find the number one karaoke singer in the capital, the search begins for entertaining performances from the public.
With limited spots remaining in the 2008 Karaoke Ice Awards, the final auditions are on tonight at the Gold Club Arena. Entry is free with club dress standards applying.
The karaoke menu has hits from the 70’s to the present, with favourites from artists; ABBA, BeeGees, Carpenters, Elvis, Sinatra, Beyonce, Shakira, Christina Aguilera, Westlife and more.
All you have to do is impress the organisers on the night to be voted in favourite.
The auditions for the 2008 Karaoke Awards in PNG, an annual competition for aspiring singers sponsored by SP Brewery will be open to the public.
For those of you who think you have a talented voice able to hold notes like those you hear on the radio, this is your chance to win some major cash prizes (K5,000 worth).
The first prize is K2,500, second K1,500.00 and third K1,000 with Ice merchandise as well.
So far these are the names of previous auditions that have been called back for tonight’s final auditions: Felix Goling, Resty Restauro, Sylvia Seta, Roger Sassah, Ross Miva, Abigail Leoquinco, Keisha Jones, Sera Peter, Philomena Oaeke, Noah Ilau, Naime Igo, Allan Pora-Schmidt, Li Walter, Veronica Tinston, Daniel Fabila, Melissa Horova, Victoria Jersey Gima, Emmanuel Fabila.
These singers will have to start preparations for the competition and are asked to come in to discuss the criteria.
All other interested singers have a final chance tonight to make it into the competition, so make sure you’re there by 7pm.

Media Magrove Climate Day

MEMBERS of the media industry were out in full force to commemorate International Media Freedom Day at Tahira in Central province last Saturday.

The day begun with planting of over 300 mangroves to mark the theme of the event “Media Mangrove Climate Day”. Media organizations represented were from The National, Post Courier, Wantok, EmTV, Sunday Chronicle, NBC and the journalism students of UPNG. Friends of the Media including the PNG Tourism Promotion Authority also joined the media to commemorate the event.
The media had been reporting and making news for the people but the day was especially for the media when they themselves made news by interviewing each other for their thoughts on the important event.
The organizers also prepared a barbecue and drinks for everyone.

Information can lead to empowerment

THE University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) Journalism students last Friday celebrated World Media Freedom Day with a small photo exhibition held at the Sir Michael Somare Library.

The exhibition ran with the theme “Freedom of Expression Access to Information & Empowerment of People”.
Head of Journalism and Public Relations strand at UPNG Leo Wafiwa said the exhibition will provide opportunity for students to identify the relationship between information and how they can empower themselves.
Mr Wafiwa said the exhibition will be open for this week to allow primary school students to have a look and learn something from the exhibition which is an initiative of his Journalism students.

A fundraising dance for medical expenses of a three-year-old Nou Kari Lapan, a kidney patient will be held this Friday at Sports Inn. Starting time is 6pm and music will be provided by In-House DJ. Club 22 will host Pacific Nite tonight with live performance from Betty Toea amd A20 studio bands. Grass skirt competition is also on the same night. Bring your grass skirt on the night and register to win first price K300, second price K250 and third price K200. all winners will be drawn on the night. Thursday Nite is Ladies nite. Free glass of wine on arrival and there will be a show for the ladies called ‘Muscle Men’. Live Bands will be playing on Friday nights and Wire Loose Nite is on Saturday Nights. Club 22 has it all so head down there if you want to have a good time.

“The French Alliance of Port Moresby is offering a new session of French courses for beginners and intermediate. It is a chance for all to learn French in a professional and friendly environment. The classes are held at the University of Papua New Guinea on Mondays and Tuesdays from 12 to 1 pm (beginners) and 1 to 2 pm for intermediates. Fees are 120 Kina for five weeks for PNG citizens and 250 for expatriates. There is no academic requirement. The session will start on Monday 5th of May. The National Nius Rum Klab will be holding its annual fundraising dance on Friday May 23 2008 at none other than Lamana (The City). Pre-sold tickets are selling for K10 and K15 at the gate. There will also be some great give aways on the night so be there.
