Sabumei: Give me the mandate

UNGGAI-Bena remains one of the least developed electorate in the country, former minister and intending candidate Benaias Sabumei said after nominating on Tuesday.
Mr Sabumei said most roads, bridges, schools and health centres were in a state of ruin, with no adequate maintenance for the past 15 years.
He said the blame must go to the previous Members of Parliament who represented the electorate from 1992 to this year.
“These former MPs should not blame the previous provincial and national governments but themselves for not aggressively pursuing funding for these infrastructures,” Mr Sabumei said.
He said Unggai-Bena was once a well-developed and economically progressive electorate, with well-developed road infrastructure and excellent educational and health facilities.
Mr Sabumei said it was sad that during those 15 years many resources had been wasted by the previous representatives with nothing to show for. He also blamed the lack of development and progress on the continuous tribal fighting in the electorate.
Mr Sabumei said if the tribal fights continue, the electorate and the people would continue to deny themselves of all government services.
He called on the people of the electorate to give him the mandate in the election to settle these conflicts as he had demonstrated his leadership qualities in settling past tribal fights in the upper and lower Bena areas.
