O誰eill nominates in Pangia

By ANDREW ALPHONSE
A HUGE crowd flocked the rural Pangia government station in the Southern Highlands yesterday to witness the nomination of local MP and Opposition leader Peter O誰eill.
Traffic came to standstill while the main Pangia and Ialibu highway was swamped with thousands of people who had come in from Ialibu, Kuare in Kagua and throughout Pangia district to witness Mr O誰eill nominate.
In a show of political solidarity and support, they put on traditional dances and chanted war cries as they led Mr O誰eill to Pangia district office to nominate. People from Iaro council area contributed and paid for Mr O誰eill痴 nominations fees.
Later, selected leaders told the People痴 National Congress Party leader that he did not need to campaign in Pangia anymore and urged him to concentrate in other parts of the country to support his PNC candidates in a bid to win more seats and form the next government.
At the close of nominations, only six candidates nominated to challenge Mr O誰eill for the seat.
Returning officer Ambrose Okane announced the six as former MP Roy Yaki (PNG Party), former Southern Highlands administrator Brian Pebo (PNG Conservative Party), Thomas Tua Tale (Independent), George Yalipu Koke (PNG Country Party), Charles Turi (Independent) and Kenny Eyapala (Stars Alliance Party).
