Lae police nab suspects

LAE police arrested two youths only hours after they robbed a Telikom linesman at 10-Mile outside Lae and drove into town with the vehicle they had stolen from the worker last Wednesday.
Acting metropolitan commander Supt Leo Lamei said the two suspects were with another suspect, who held up the Telikom worker at around 1pm at the 10-Mile service station.
It was alleged that the victim was returning from Nadzab and had stopped to buy a drink when the two suspects confronted him with a .38 revolver and demanded the key from him.
The other suspect, who was holding a hunting knife, came and forced the victim to hand over the key, pulling the victim out of the vehicle.
The suspects then drove into town but police, after being informed of the robbery, were on the lookout and spotted the suspects as they drove into Boundary Road.
A police task force unit pursued the suspects, who panicked and abandoned the vehicle at Buimo Road and fled into the Housing Commission area.
Supt Lamei said police searched all the houses and apprehended the two suspects while the third one escaped.
He said the two suspects were still in custody and would be charged soon.
