Depression haiku
Fly buzz in my face
Damn you. Clap! Fly is falling
Now go wash my hand
Raindrops hit the floor
1 2 3 4 5 6 More
Reflection in pool
I'm in love again
With my rippled reflection
The mirror shatters
A million pieces
A kiss from her for good luck
I could use this shit
The mirror stares back
A million pieces in place
I smile with delight
Fly buzz in my face
I started then stopped and smiled
Let the sucker go

Rendezvous
One rendezvous
me and you
Under the sky
you and I
But things can never
be the same
and for this everyone
I blame
One rendezvous
for I feel blue
By the sea
you and me
For now we pass
each other by
No questioning for
we know why
One rendezvous
alone with you
On the beach
to reminisce
Miss you forever
the love still lingers
One rendezvous
just me and you

Ancient Romance
The year is 1892, first photograph
Taken by the King-Copland party
At Makawana, Dogura diocese
A large state of the art version of it
Hangs as part of PNG Expo, somewhere
In mid-Europe; Barcelona or Budapest?
Exposition? Two kaiwawo, snapped
In their idyllic splendor -
She, displaying her hereditary
Tattoos of Motuan aristocracy
He, in his Gaesasara regalia
A closer study of the photo impels
A European connoisseur to exclaim:
"Look at that dinosaur!
Who's he smiling at?
And that poor kokofa
Nuzzling warily up to him
To be cuddled? Hugged?"
"Daika dibadia," mumble
The natives of the new millennium
From a safe distance, of course
Lest they be heard assessing
Their own nobility in the way
They should not, "But the two do
Seem to strike up a nice pose
Of an ancient, ancient romance!"
By James St Nativeson
(for M.D, M.D & M.D who laminated
the photograph in February 2007)
