TSLS opens new branch in Wewak
By GABRIEL FITO
THE Teachers Savings and Loans Society has been commended for choosing to establish a branch in Wewak to service hundreds of teachers in East and West Sepik provinces.

Speaking during the launching of the TSL East Sepik branch in Wewak last Friday, Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare thanked TSL for recognising the difficulties faced by teachers who at times had to travel to Lae or Port Moresby to have their loans processed.
He said by bringing the service right to their doorsteps, the teachers would now be more committed towards educating our children as less time would be needed to do their transaction.
Sir Michael said teaching is a good profession and everyone including parents must support the teachers by showing appreciation for their role in educating our children.
TSL board chairman William Walmari said with the upgrading of the sub-branch to branch status, there would be faster loan approvals as all cheques would now be drawn and printed in Wewak.
He said with the motto “not for profit, not for charity but for service”, the Wewak branch would provide nothing but service to our teachers.
Mr Walmari said since 2003, the society has been embarking on a rollout plan to ensure that savings and loans services are available in all of the 19 provinces.
He said Goroka and Alotau branches were commissioned in 2006, followed by Madang, Kavieng, Lae, Mt Hagen and Kokopo in 1997.
Mr Walmari said TSL has proven to be the strongest and largest savings and loans society with strong financial performance for the last 35 years.
He said a total of K4.96 million was paid to its members account last Dec 31, 2007.
