Markham Yarang bag first competition points
By HENRY MORABANG
MARKHAM Yarangs celebrated its first win in the Premier league after stunning pre-match favourite Maclarens 1-nil in the Port Moresby men’s soccer competition last Saturday.

The victory is also a sweet revenge for the Morobeens who lost to Maclarens in the First division grand final last year 1-nil.
Both teams were scoreless in the opening half but it took Markham Yarang 55 minutes to post their first two competition points through strike Timas Yawaka.
Yawaka was well supported by former Rapatona backliner Clinton Caleb, Mathias Gonang, Kumilus Howiha, Katu Simiah and Kelly Jampu.
All combined to sound the warning that the Yarangs are no easy beats.
Despite fielding its off-season buy such as Trevor Ire, Peter Karewa, Taumata Golo and Gary Moka, Maclarens have to blame themselves for being over-confident in this outing.
PS Rutz welcomed the return of its prodigal son and former international Paul Komboi with a 2-1 victory over their countrymen, Momase.
Momase were first to score through Bobby but Lazarus McOwen (3rd minute) and David Lornie (63rd) goals were enough to collect the first two competition points.
Momase despite going down, played a more competitive brand of football than their experienced PS Ruts opponents.
The Rosen Matanga-coached team have secured the services of U23 international Jason Wesley to support Richard Matanga, Junior Sasu, Wesley Mou and the Flinders Vendy and Chris.
Veteran John Kelau was always available to support his new crop of players from Gerehu suburb.
In the final match on Saturday, Souths and University drew nil-all.
Yesterday, the Robert Popat coached Verave humbled Cafu Clement Anisan’s Rapatona 4-1 while Defence and Cosmos fought out a 2-all draw.
In the women’s division, Guria and Souths started their campaign on a high note registering four goals against PNG Gardener and Jaha respectively.
University drew with Rapatana 2-all, new team Mungkas held Markham Yaranga to a nil-all draw while the main game saw a similar scoreline between Lamana and Telikom.
