MAF will not accept election charters, says GM

THE MAF management has advised its customers and the public that it will not accept election charters during this year’s election period.
This comes after the air craft crew was exposed to various threats of violence during previous elections.
The attacks occurred during election charters and when carrying ballot materials.
Mike Jelliffe, MAF general manager, said that during the election period, normal flight operation of the airline will progress.
However, operations will be reduced or suspended at any bases if circumstances allow for this.
He further said that the safety of any transport company and its crew is paramount in its operations and the closure of the airstrips is possible if there is civil unrest or violence present.
He stated that under the company’s election period policy, political charters, ballot boxes empty or full and election papers will not be accepted for carriage.
The management has, however, said it will accept the travel of electoral officials flying to and from an area to prepare for elections if the MAF management sees that there is no safety risks involved.
