Members not enjoying benefits: Busken

By HENLY TAKA
LIFESTYLE diseases are becoming a major concern for Papua New Guinea and needs to be addressed with emphasis on prevention.
This was the message from the POSF managing director Leon Busken during his address to a fundraising barbeque hosted at the UPNG Medical Faculty to raise funds for the Medical Symposium.
Mr Busken said POSF looked after superannuation contributions of more than 80,000 members but an increasing number of the contributors were dying without enjoying their savings due to lifestyle diseases.
He said if nothing was done about this issue or if there is no change in government policy, this will pose a serious problem in the next 10 to 15 years.
Mr Busken said there needed to be control on the selling of soft drinks and other high sugar content products in schools, the import of lamb flaps, and also the influx of cheap food items.
He presented a cheque of K5,000 on behalf of POSF towards the Medical Symposium.
