31days to implement new policing concept

TWO Port Moresby-based police officers have been given 31days to mobilise policemen and women for the new policing concept to be introduced starting in NCD.
NCD/Central police commander Alfred Reu and metropolitan superintendent Mark Kanawi have until June 19 to prepare the operations order and mobilise manpower for the concept, which they announced in public on May 19.
Deputy police commissioner (operations) Geoffrey Vaki said he would check with the two officers at the end of the 31 days if they had carried out what he had instructed them to do.
Mr Reu, Mr Kanawi and Mr Vaki led a public awareness drive two weeks ago informing the public about the new policing concept which is hoped to patch up relationship between police and the public.
The concept aims to improve public safety in public places where women, young children and vulnerable people have complained of being hassled.
Through the new concept, police aim to put more officers on the beat at some of the notorious hotspots on a 24-hour basis.
