No clue on fire

POLICE in Mendi are baffled at what might have caused the fire that burnt down Southern Highland’s Governor Hami Yawari’s house in Mendi last Monday night.
Southern Highlands special security operations commander Chief Superintendent Samson Mapi said yesterday that police still did not have any lead or information on the cause of fire that gutted the two-storey building at Paga Hill residential area.
Mr Mapi said a police criminal investigation unit attending to probe the cause of the fire the next day was met by an uncooperative local people.
He said PNG Defence Force soldiers residing nearby braved the fire to rescue three new vehicles belonging to Governor Yawari.
He said if the soldiers were not around, the vehicles could have been burnt too.
