George outlines Ramsi’s specific role in Solomons

THE Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (Ramsi) was not setting itself up as a parallel government to the legally constituted Solomon Islands government, the special co-ordinator of Ramsi Tim George said. Mr George said Ramsi could only work in partnership with the people and government of the Solomons.
He said the Solomon Islands government had the final say in policy decisions, including government expenditure, and any reforms that Ramsi has been working on must first be considered by cabinet and passed by the Solomons Parliament and the minister of finance and cabinet have the power to reject reform proposals.
Mr George said all Ramsi advisers and personnel were answerable to their respective Solomons superiors, permanent secretaries and ministers
