Drama, visual displays widely used in awareness

By GABRIEL FITO
AIDS awareness campaigners are increasingly using drama and visual displays to increase awareness on the deadly virus throughout the country.
In East Sepik province, 14 theatre groups last week completed one-week training at the St Francis YC Hall in Wewak to improve their skills in drama and visual display.
The training was conducted by experts in drama and plays from TokAut AIDS and Volunteer Service Overseers in Madang.
East Sepik provincial AIDS council coordinator Emil Trowale told The National that the training was aimed at strengthening their techniques in presenting messages on HIV and AIDS.
More than 50 participants from the 14 theatre groups from all parts of East Sepik and Sandaun provinces attended the training.
Mr Trowale said the theatre groups were their partners in the HIV and AIDS awareness programmes and commended Unicef for their support in the awareness programme.
