Drop in serious crimes in Lae city: May crime figures

CRIME figures released for this month shows a drop in serious crimes in Lae, compared to the previous months.
The figures were for cases reported to police up till last Friday.
Figures released showed 88 serious crimes reported to police this month compared to 115 last month.
There were 40 arrests made out of the 88 serious crimes reported to police this month, which was a disappointment compared to 71 arrests last month.
Figures showed that the figures for this month was also lower compared to the 124 cases for March and 118 cases for February.
Armed robberies recorded a low of 15 cases, for which there were four arrests compared to 22 cases last month resulting in eight arrests.
There were seven reported break-ins this month, the same figure recorded last month.
This month’s statistics also showed a decline in the number of murders with two reported cases compared to five reported cases last month and seven reported cases in March.
There was also a huge decline in rape cases with a low of five cases compared to 13 cases last month and 10 cases reported for March and 15 cases for February.
Figures also showed five cases of illegal guns possession, three arson, four abductions, five misappropriation and one police shooting case.
