Sharks in the lead

Kama Sharks are outright leaders in the Goroka Rugby Union competition after toppling early leaders Harlequins with a convincing 24 to 7 victory at the National Sports Institute last Saturday.
The game was dominated by the forward packs of both teams right from the start of play.
Sharks took away the game from the boys from Rotary Park in the second half with two tries to nothing.
But Sharks had the first laugh from a set play by forward Eric Tili who made a break though the Harlies 40-metre mark to send centre Fred Tom to the left wing passing to Desmond Tete who did a Jonah-Lomu-like fan off his opponent before scoring a five-pointer.
Chris Ogi converted to bring the score to a seven-point deficit.
Harlies were quick to respond, this time the forwards push their way towards the Sharks right wing before passing a cut-out pass to their centre who chip kicked to find the hands of winger Vali Gebob to score.
With the try converted by veteran Kevin Tom the boys went into the second stanza with a 7-7 scoreline.
But the game turned when the Sharks forwards started gaining hard metres.
Willie Kume led the forward pack and hooker Alex Mel provided a strong foundation for the rack and maul formation pushing their way slowly towards the tryline.
The effort paid off when fellow front man Micah Silus burrowed his way to score.
Again it was the Sharks forward pack that had an influence in their try. From a maul 10 metres in the Harlies try line veteran Brian Jonduo pushed his way to score a converted try to win by 17 points.
