Uni force 2-2 draw in national trial match

UNIVERSITY came from behind to force a 2-2 draw against the PNG national soccer training squad for the Pacific Games in Apia, at Bisini Soccer ground yesterday afternoon.
This was the first hit-out by PNG national team after two weeks in training camp and will hold the second match next Wednesday at 4pm.
Team manager John Kapi Natto said last night that he was satisfied with the result as this was a trial match to find the combination among the players.
The team was without three overseas-based players Mauri Wasi, Gerard Pombuai, and Nathaniel Lepani except for Reginald Davani who was available to take part in the training camp.
University also used the match as part of their match fitness as they did not play last week against Defence.
Coach John Davani is happy with the sides but expect a lot of improvement before the team leaves in a weeks time for Noumea, New Caledonia.
University has also included three guest players Niel Hans, Richard Daniel and Tapas Posman in their side to bolster their attack and defence.
Meanwhile, University soccer club have received a total of K10,000 from PNG Football Association and University of Papua New Guinea respectively to help them through to New Caledonia.
PNGFA Dimirit Mileng presented the money to coach John Davani before leaving for Zurich for the FIFA Congress while University administration led by Registrar Jennifer Popat handed the money to Mr Davani on Monday.
Davani thanked both PNGFA and University for their financial support which will definitely help the club in their endeavours in Noumea for the O-League qualifier match next month.
