Show of Kumuls approval

PNG Kumuls coach Adrian Lam (left) and Telikom acting CEO Peter Loko showing their approval as Community Development and Sports Minister Dame Carol Kidu tries out the new Kumuls jersey at the official announcement of Telikom's K300,000 sponsorship of the Kumuls in Port Moresby on Tuesday.
The sponsorship will be pumped into junior development and to assist the Telikom Kumuls get to next year's world cup. A proposal is also in the pipeline to host a match against France as part of both teams lead up to the world cup.
PNG has been pooled with heavyweights Australia, New Zealand and England where only three teams will qualify for the finals.
The draw was done in such a way to avoid blowout scores in the pool matches.
Despite that Lam said the Kumuls will be intent on showing that they do belong in that pool and will be out to cause upsets.
Dame Carol Kidu said on Tuesday that Telikom's sponsorship was in the best interests of the nation and the community.
"In the Government, we recognize that social responsibility by a big corporation, in sponsoring sport, is not misplaced.
"Sports of all kinds are a force in creating peace and social development, unity and nationhood.
"I congratulate our Telikom, and our Kumuls, for getting together, and I wish them well in the years ahead, particularly fighting for a place in the World Cup finals," Dame Carol said.
