University helps its soccer club

The University Inter Football Club’s fundraising towards sending its men’s team to the Oceania Club Championships in New Caledonia next month has been boosted with a K5,000 donation from the University of Papua New Guinea.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Ross Hynes (pictured left) presented the cheque to coach John Davani in the presence of Registrar Jennifer Popat and the club captain Trevor Ire on Monday. “It is a small contribution to take you to success and good luck and all the best,” Prof. Hynes said.
He also lauded the idea of developing a field on the campus to international standard and expressed also that the connection between the club and the University should be further strengthened through development programmes with players in the campus competition.
Davani thanked the University and gave his undertaking that the team will do its best as the flag carrier of the University and the country.
He said the team is made up of both experienced players in representative football and new comers like first year law student Harold Demo.
Registrar Popat acknowledged the club for contributing enormously to the development of the code at the national level.
