Raiders too good for local Bulldogs

By DAVID KAPI
The Wari Vele Raiders outplayed their local rivals Brian Bell Bulldogs winning 25-14 yesterday to climb to second spot on the points table in the SP Cup rugby league competition.
The game was played at Lloyd Robson Oval in Port Moresby.
The Raiders points came from three penalties goals, four tries and a Geno Ralani field goal in the dying minutes.
In other matches Eagles downed Bombers 19-12 in Kagamuga, and the Gurias belted the title holders Muruks 16-8 in Kokopo.
The Warriors and Lahanis game in Goroka was called off prematurely in the second half due to a disputed try when Warriors were leading the Lahanis 14-12. It is likely that the game will be awarded to the Warriors.
In Port Moresby, the Bulldogs were first to score in the 17th minute through winger Charles Onguglo after forward Simon Tonge scooped up a loose ball which he passed to hooker Benjamin John, and on to Kevin Frank to set up Onguglo for a corner try for a 4-0 lead after Joe was unsuccessful to add the extras.
Former Kumuls Kawage Gagma, who was sent off in middle of second half for a high tackle on Ninkama, had a huge impact in the game for the Raiders with his runs and tackles.
Raiders lead 10-8 at halftime.
In the second half they scored through Ralani Jerry Kitan, Wilfred Henry and Emanuel Uki.
Although the Bulldogs tried hard to get back into the game through a after second Onguglo try they were shut out by an enthusiastic Raiders outfit led by forwards in man-of-the-match Nixon Kolo, Andrew Norman, Luke Kolalio, Bal Kamane, Kawage Gagma and lock Jacky Kuman.
After round eight Lahanis lead the SP Cup competition on 13 points followed by Raiders 12, Bulldogs 11, Warriors nine, Muruks and Gurias eight, Mioks seven, and Eagles and Bombers six points each.
