Best of Besta

By ZACHERY PER
BESTA Eagles yesterday recorded their first win against a visiting LBC Lae Bombers 19-12 in a tough encounter at Kagamuga rugby league ground in Mount Halgen.
Eagles coach Joe McConnor blamed their previous draws and losses on poor management and lack of support.
Despite these hiccups the boys impressed their home crowd with the win which McConner hopes would be the start of many more in the remaining games ahead.
Eagles first try in the corner was registered 12 minutes into the game from second rower Kot Kerua.
With a successful conversion from skipper Mel, the Eagles were fired up to a high level and played aggressively to defend the 6-0 lead.
Junior Kumul centre Steven Neng came up with the second try, also converted, to boost the Eagles lead to 12-0 at half time.
The Bombers fought back in the second half when Adam Bill scored and a successful conversion saw them trail 6-12.
Eagles went ahead when wing Ham Tee potted a field goal for a 13-6 scoreline followed soon after by a Dion Aiye try which was converted for a 19-6 lead.
However, Bombers hooker Andrew Baine made a surprise run under the Eagles upright and scored to bring the score to 19-12 but this was going to be the last points for the Bombers.
Bombers coach and officials said after the game that they were not happy with the standard of refereeing and touch judging.
