Gurias climb up

By ELIZABETH VUVU
AGMARK Gurias reaffirmed their determination to climb up the point ladder by ousting reigning championsMabey & Johnson Muruks in a 16-8 victory at the Kalabond Field in Kokopo yesterday.
Coming off from a win against Besta Eagles the previous weekend, the Gurias wasted not time to score their first try through a brilliant piece of play when Jessie Alunga combined to send skipper Menzie Yere over the tryline.
Yere as usual side-stepped his way through two defenders before planting the ball on the ground. Alunga failed the conversion and the score remain 4-nil in favour of East New Britain team.
Muruks Sola Rupa levelled the score with a try on the left wing after a good combination passes, then followed by a successful conversion kick from Malakai Owen to take the lead 6-4.
Gurias gave away another penalty to see Muruks Owen add another two points to lead 8-4.
Just before halftime, Opisa Pomaba score for Gurias to take the lead 10-8 after a successful conversion.
In the second half it was all Gurias as they put up a good defence to keep the opposition scoreless. In turn, they scored through Ricky Sibiya while Malatau collected the penalty to win the match 16-8.
