Niugini Energy: No backer of Danaya

NIUGINI Energy Ltd has denied claims by a candidate that the company was supporting Governor Bob Danaya in his election bid by flying him around Western province.
Candidate Paiyo Bale, who is taking on the governor, alleged that the company was supplying one of its exploration helicopters for his campaign trips.
But the company denied this in a statement issued yesterday.
It said it did not own helicopters, and only hired either fixed wing or helicopters when needed for its operations.
“Niugini Energy categorically denies the assertion that political favours had been granted, either by funding or assistance,” the statement said.
The company said any discussions held between Niugini Energy and the provincial government or the governor and the administration had been “strictly held in an open dialogue and that they were in cordial and businesslike manner”.
