Barter launches Tusbab appeal

MADANG MP Sir Peter Barter has launched an urgent appeal for funds to rebuild and re-equip the staff administration block razed to the ground last week at Tusbab High School.
Last weekend, he met with administrator Joseph Dorpar and the acting manager of Madang urban council, where he stressed the importance of Tusbab as the largest secondary school in the province, must be re-opened as quickly as possible for students to continue their education.
Sir Peter said he was very disappointed over the loss.
Just last week, new computers paid for from the Regional Member’s discretionary funds were installed at the school.
The building was very old and although the cause of the fire had not been released, it could have been through old wiring, Sir Peter said.
To get the ball rolling, Sir Peter donated K1,000 while the town council followed suit with K1,000.
A letter will be distributed this week to all parents of students, former students of Tusbab High School and all business houses in Madang to see if sufficient funds could be raised to rebuild and equip the staff administration block.
Sir Peter said talks had already begun with the Department of Education to see if it could assist the appeal as it was essential that work begin immediately to restore services provided previously by the administration and staff building.
The appeal is being coordinated jointly by the Madang administration and Sir Peter’s executive officer Peter Memafu, who can be contacted on 8541361.
Donations can be made to the Tusbab Secondary School Appeal account number 12758187, ANZ bank, Madang.
