Public to see final rolls soon
THE final electoral rolls will become a public document and everyone, including candidates, can see it before election day, Electoral Commissioner Andrew Trawen said yesterday.
Mr Trawen said the commission has contracted three printers which are now printing all 6,228 electoral rolls which will be dispatched in the next two weeks.
Mr Trawen also confirmed that candidates were given the opportunity to view the preliminary rolls during the verification period.
He added that preliminary rolls in all Highlands provinces were on target except for Southern Highlands which was delayed due to some anomalies involving voters’ enrolment.
Mr Trawen said the commission was satisfied that it had created sufficient awareness on enrolment and voters had themselves to blame if their names were not on the 2007 common roll.
Polling period begins on June 30 and ends on July 10.

ENB voters still vague on LPV
PEOPLE in Baining, Pomio, Duke of York Islands and Putput, East New Britain province need to know more about the limited preferential voting (LPV) system.
A concerned leader told The National the LPV awareness drive carried out in those areas were poorly conducted as the scheme was not properly explained.
The leader said the awareness was carried out by public servants who did not undergo proper training.
The leader said the people were still confused with the new system and most were thinking that vote number “one” was important than “two” and “three”.
The leader believed that during the voting, there would be many informal votes to be received from Baining, Pomio, Duke of York and Putput.
