Wollom’s debt woes

By HARLYNE JOKU
PORT Moresby North East MP Casper Wollom owes Parua Lawyers legal fees amounting to K84,960.
Because of this, the National Court has ordered Mr Wollom to pay the Parua Lawyers the amount in two instalments.
The order was handed down last May 24.
Mr Wollom is to initially pay the lawyers K50,000 with the balance to be settled by July 10.
It is understood that the fees were for legal services provided to Mr Wollom for defending two 2002 election petitions filed by Phillip Taku and David Unagi.
Mr Wollom yesterday confirmed the fees were outstanding but added that he had not been served the court order.
Margaret Parua, the principal of Parua Lawyers, said an agreement was reached between Mr Wollom and Parua Lawyers two years ago to settle the fees.
Ms Parua said Mr Wollom backed off the agreement so she took him to court.
She said since the court order was made last May 24, attempts to serve Mr Wollom the court order had been unsuccessful.
“He has been elusive and impossible to reach,” Ms Parua said.
