Mane sues poll body

A FORMER teacher intends to seek a court order for the Electoral Commission to accept his nomination for the Okapa Open seat.
Neon Mane said he managed to deposit the K1,000 fee with the commission at 2pm last May 10 but was told that nominations had already closed.
“It was only a matter of timing,” he told The National in Goroka yesterday.
He said he tried to nominate at the provincial election office in Goroka but was told that he had to do so at Okapa.
He said he tried to call the Okapa district office to have one of his supporters represent him to complete the formalities but was told that he had to be there in person.
“I feel that my constitutional right as a citizen to contest the election was deprived by the Electoral Commission when it rejected my attempt for nomination,” he said.
Mr Mane, who claimed that he resigned as a teacher only to contest the elections, said he had engage a legal firm to represent him.
