Warriors bombed it against Bombers
By SAMPSON BONAI
LBC BOMBERS took sweet revenge in
their Round Three loss to beat Pagini Warriors 30-16 in the main
match of the SP Cup double header played in Lae yesterday.
In the early game, competition leaders Bintangor Lahanis suffered
their first 30-12 loss against Agmark Gurias in another
entertaining game (see separate story).
LBC Bombers coach Boga Tau said he was impressed with his boys win
who stuck to their game player to win the match. The boys followed
the basic game plan by throwing the ball around, defended strongly
plus minimizing on their ball handling errors to win the match.
“I’m pleased with the result and he thanked the players for the
well deserved win,” Tau said.
“I also would like to thank the referee for a great job in
controlling the game and making sure all rules of the game are
being strictly followed that saw us having the advantage over our
opponents,” he added.
Pagini Warriors coach Steven Gore blamed their loss on ball
handling errors and said few of their players copped the penalties
and were sin binned that denied them the win.
“We paid dearly with four of the players were sin binned and the
Bombers capitalized on to beat us. We will improve on our errors
during training this week to prepare for our next game against
Raiders this weekend in Port Moresby,” he said.
Warriors took an early lead in the opening minutes following a
good set play in the forwards between Joppa Gomia Junior Roger
Kuagan and Tomson Kuiwa before back rower Newman Alphonse tore
Bombers defence to touched down near the posts. Kuiwa made sure of
the conversion to put them infront 6-0.
By half time the score was 10-8 in the visitors’ favour.
In changed in favour of Lae Bombers midway through the second half
for a 24-12 lead and then a final six-pointer through Eki Ene
before Warriors replied with a Gordon Fred four-pointer for the
final 30-16 scoreline.
