10 new business entities in Lae
joining Nasfund
By JASON SOM KAUT
TEN establishments in Lae will be
joining the Nasfund by the end of next month, bringing the number
of contributing Lae employers to 270, chief operating officer Ian
Tarutia revealed yesterday.
This follows a visit last week by a Nasfund team to business
houses in Lae in which 40 new business entities had been
identified.
Mr Tarutia said 10 firms had already completed all necessary
documents while the other 30 were still processing their
membership papers.
He made the disclosure during the official opening of their new
office yesterday at the Central Court building in Lae.
Allan McLay, president of the Lae Chamber of Commerce and
industry, said the private sector in Lae as a stakeholder in
Nasfund was delighted in the opening of the new, well-resourced
and spacious office.
“Nasfund is continuing to make good profits and has a good
transparent style of management,” Mr McLay said.
The superfund moved from a smaller office at IPI building which is
very old and due for demolition.
“Demand for membership has increased, hence our transfer to a
bigger area to better serve our clients,” Mr Tarutia said.
He said Lae currently had a membership of 260 employers.
The new office has two sections – the larger, more spacious client
service chamber and the communication chamber – which will be
operated by two officers on a full-time basis to address client
queries.
“Lae is the second largest contributor with a membership of
30,000, one-third of the total active membership of 90,000
nationwide,” Mr Tarutia said.
“Our focus is on improving service delivery and to go pro-active …
the new office is bigger, more spacious and is hooked up to the
main system to ensure improved client service,” Mr Tarutia said.
He said Lae currently had six staff and is planning to hire to
more.
