People ‘key’ to progress

DEVELOPMENT starts with the people, according to lawyer Edward Manu, and he has urged them to “help me to help you”.
The Rigo Open candidate said the people must organise themselves at the village level and set up village or ward development committees.
This was stipulated in the Organic Law and the country’s Constitution, he told a rally at Gunugau village in Rigo last Saturday.
“The committees submit proposals or development plans and the local MP simply sources the money to fund the projects,” he said.
“It is therefore my mission to enforce the local level government system so it serves its purpose.”
Mr Manu, who studied Japanese at the University of PNG, claimed he had used his connections to source for funds from the Japanese government and people to assist with educational projects in Rigo district.
He said he helped fund the construction of a double-storey building for Bina and teachers quarters at the Bonanamo Primary School.
