Health Dept wants allegations resolved

By ALISON ANIS
ACTING Deputy Secretary for Health Pascoe Kase said the department cannot afford to operate with allegations of mismanagement and fraudulent activities hanging over its head and called on responsible authorities to quickly step in and resolve the matter.
Mr Kase told The National yesterday that while he could not directly respond to the allegations raised by Health Minister Sir Peter Barter “because of certain departmental protocol”, he believed that transparency should always prevail in the department.
Reports in the media this week revealed “millions of kina being wasted and medical supplies going missing from medical stores and turning up in retail shops”.
Top officers within the department were blamed for lacking good management and organisational capabilities.
“I for one, believe in transparency and would really like to see that this allegations looked into so that we could see how we are going to address them.”
Health Secretary Dr Nicholas Mann could not be reached for comments.
