Barter made paramount chief

By AUGUSTINE KINNA
HEALTH and Bougainville Affairs Minister Sir Peter Barter has been made a paramount chief in Bougainville by the people of Hagogohe constituency in Buka district.
Sir Peter, who would be retiring from politics this year, was recognised by the community for his enormous contribution towards the peace process on Bougainville.
He was conferred the honour during the Autonomous Bougainville Government’s second anniversary celebrations on Buka island.
The Hagogohe constituency proudly initiated Sir Peter into the Naboen clan as Paramount Chief Masalahona and a true Bougainville citizen under the Bougainville constitution.
The initiation ceremony was witnessed by ABG President Joseph Kabui, North Bougainville MP James Togel, ABG members and the people of Bougainville.
The name Masalahona given to Sir Peter relates to a chief of the highest order and means a peace warrior or a peacemaker.
With the title, Sir Peter is free to come and go anytime he wished.
