Misuse of police vehicle slammed

SOME policemen in Kundiawa are allegedly escorting local MP Mathew Siune on his campaign rounds and using a police vehicle.
Joe Mek Teine, who is contesting the Kundiawa-Gembogl Open seat, claimed that the 10-seater vehicle was Government property and should not be used like it was privately owned.
He said the policemen were escorting Mr Siune, who is also the Trade and Industry Minister, “day and night”.
The Police Commissioner must investigate this abuse, he said.
Mr Teine said the vehicle was for a task force set up last year to fight the illegal production of homebrew, marijuana trafficking and petty crimes in Kundiawa.
“Instead it is being used for political purposes,” he said.
Provincial police commander Supt Jimmy Onopia could not be contacted for comment.
